Why install a GPS tracker with a relay?

A GPS tracker with a relay allows not only to monitor the location of vehicles in real time, but also to remotely block the engine from starting or running. This solution is used to protect against theft, control the fleet, and increase vehicle safety.

Modern eQuGPS and Teltonika GPS trackers support remote relay control via a monitoring platform or SMS commands.

What is needed for installation

Before you start, prepare:

  • eQuGPS or Teltonika GPS tracker;

  • engine blocking relay;

  • SIM card with active Internet;

  • fuse;

  • installation wires;

  • multimeter;

  • insulating materials.

Important: The GPS tracker must receive constant power regardless of the ignition key position.

Basic installation rules

Constant power supply

The connection is made as follows:

Wire Appointment
Red +12V / +24V
Black Ground (GND)
ACC Ignition control

The tracker should remain active even after the engine is turned off.

Correct placement

Recommended:

  • install the device hidden;

  • avoid metal surfaces above the antenna;

  • do not mount near the engine, turbine or exhaust system;

  • provide a stable GPS and GSM signal.

Engine lock relay wiring diagram

The relay is installed in the break of one of the circuits:

  • fuel pump;

  • starter;

  • ignition systems;

  • fuel valve (for diesel engines).

Relay connection

Relay contact Connection
30 +12V via fuse
87 Before loading
85 +12V
86 DOUT output of the GPS tracker

When the digital output is activated, the tracker controls the relay coil and blocks the motor.

Connecting Teltonika GPS trackers

Popular models:

  • Teltonika FMC920

  • Teltonika FMC130

  • Teltonika FMM130

Standard scheme:

Contact Function
PIN1 Power supply +10–30V
PIN7 GND
DOUT1 Relay control

The digital output DOUT1 allows for remote vehicle locking via the eQuGPS monitoring system.

Engine lock setting

After installation you must:

  1. Register the tracker in the eQuGPS system.

  2. Add administrator number.

  3. Check the transmission of coordinates.

  4. Configure the digital output DOUT.

  5. Perform a test lock and unlock.

Before activating, make sure the vehicle is in a safe place.

Features of installation on different types of transport

Passenger cars

The most commonly used is blocking the fuel pump or starter.

Freight transport

24V power supply is supported. Appropriate fuses and wiring diagrams must be used.

Special equipment

Additional protection of the wiring from moisture, dust and vibrations is recommended.

Motorcycles

Due to limited space, it is advisable to use compact GPS trackers with a sealed housing.

Post-installation check

After completing the installation, check:

  • correct power supply;

  • GPS signal level;

  • connection to the server;

  • relay operation;

  • route display in the system;

  • operation of the engine blocking function.

Advantages of GPS trackers with relays from eQuGPS

  • 24/7 transport control.

  • Remote engine lock.

  • Monitoring routes and mileage.

  • Notification of unauthorized movement.

  • Support for Teltonika trackers.

  • Working with passenger cars, trucks and special vehicles.

Conclusion

Proper installation of a GPS tracker with a relay allows you to significantly increase the level of protection of the vehicle and gain full control over its movement. For maximum reliability, it is recommended to use certified GPS trackers and follow the recommended connection schemes.
